May darken your skin with moisturizer
Prepare your skin for the sun for a gentle tan:
with the help of nature!
Winter is over and your skin is far from a beautifully tanned complexion to start the warm season! How do you make them shine without burdening them? Here are a few tips.
Browning: a natural protective reaction
Melanocytes are located in the lower layers of the epidermis. These cells are also found in the hair roots from which the hair grows, but also in other parts of our body (meninges, digestive tract, eyes and ears ...). Melanocytes contain tiny organelles called melanosomes. Under the action of ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun, the melanosomes begin to produce the pigment melanin, following a complex chain of reactions.
There are essentially two forms of melanin: eumelanin is dark, brown or black, while pheomelanin is yellowish-reddish. The melanosomes migrate with their melanin from the melanocytes and invade the keratinocytes, another cell type that makes up 90% of the cells of the epidermis. The colored keratinocytes migrate to the surface of the skin when the upper layer of the epidermis is renewed. The skin gradually tans. At least for people who are more likely to produce eumelanin! Because red-haired or blonde people mainly produce pheomelanin. While the eumelanin is effective at capturing the UV rays and converting them into heat to protect the skin, the pheomelanin is quickly destroyed and offers little protection. Therefore, the skin is more prone to sunburn.
UV rays and their effects on the skin
UV rays come in three different forms: UVA, B, and C. The ozone layer blocks UV rays, but lets some of two other ultraviolet forms through. The UVB rays are primarily responsible for sunburn, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and cause damage to the DNA and cells there. Ultraviolet rays cause premature aging of the skin, but also dreaded cancers such as melanoma. People with tanned skin are less prone to sunburn (which is a first-degree burn), but like everyone else, they are at risk for cancer.
How do you make your skin glow again before the beautiful season?
How do you prepare your skin for tanning? peeling
It is advisable to exfoliate your face and body. The visible surface of the epidermis consists of dead cells attached to lipids: the horny layer. These are keratinocytes that have migrated up from the deep layers of the skin and have completed their growth cycle. A light exfoliation (so as not to irritate the skin) can remove some of these cells so that the new keratinocytes, which are rich in melanin, can get to the surface faster.
Can you prepare your skin for tanning in the solarium?
Solariums should be avoided if possible. Even if it seems tempting to pre-tan there so as not to look too pale on the beach, these sessions, during which you expose yourself to potentially carcinogenic rays, are not recommended. It is better to use natural means to keep healthy, beautiful skin, to stimulate melanin production and at the same time to supply the body with all the important nutrients.
Rely on vitamins and trace elements
To prepare your skin, vitamins and trace elements are beneficial, but so are natural pigments. Many are found in our food and have a positive effect on health. Examples: lutein (a carotenoid that protects the retina and is found in cabbage, spinach, pumpkin, eggs ...) and lyopine (another carotenoid found in tomatoes, watermelon, red fruits, grapefruit etc. and a powerful antioxidant is).
They have a protective effect and should be included in the diet. What we find most interesting, however, is beta-carotene, or provitamin A. This is a precursor to vitamin A, also called retinol in its active form. This vitamin can be slightly toxic to the liver, while beta-carotene is harmless. In the body, it turns into retinol, which stimulates melanin production. It is also a powerful antioxidant that protects cells. Beta-carotene is found primarily in carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and green-leaved vegetables. Beta Carotene and Browning go well together and provide a great way to get a peach skin that comes from within!

Preparing the skin for the tan: three important pieces of information
- Dietary supplements do not protect the skin from the harmful effects of the skin, such as sunburn, premature aging or skin cancer. One should limit the time in the sun and use sunscreen.
- The production of pigments that tan the skin is a complicated process that can be promoted by dietary supplements specially developed for the sun, such as those rich in beta-carotene.
- Well-cleansed, moisturized and cared for from the inside, skin will retain its beauty and shine for many years. This is better than having sunburned skin every year! So let's enjoy the sun, but let's protect ourselves from it!
