Where does the copying of a text go?

WhatsApp: Copy and paste message - this is how it works

If you have an interesting message on WhatsApp that you want to paste into another app or if you want to post content from another source in Messenger, we will show you how to copy and paste a message on WhatsApp.

If you want to respond to something that has already been written directly in WhatsApp, you do not have to copy a previous message. Instead, messages can simply be quoted. If you want to insert something from a chat into another conversation or in a group, you simply use the forwarding function. On the other hand, if you want to use content from a WhatsApp chat in another app and paste it into an email or Instagram message, for example, you have to copy the WhatsApp message.

Copy message

It works like this:

  1. Go to the chat from which you want to copy a message.
  2. Tap and hold the line of text.
  3. The message is marked. If you want to copy different text passages from a chat history, simply tap on further lines. The corresponding texts are highlighted in blue.
  4. Now press the three dots on the top right.
  5. You choose in the menu Copy. If several messages are marked, you press the symbol with the two sheets on top of each other.
  6. The WhatsApp message will now be copied and saved in your clipboard.

You can only copy complete messages and not extracts. If you only need a part of the text or a single sentence, you have to edit the input after inserting it.

Insert text

If you want to insert the message in a different place, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the app in which your WhatsApp text should be pasted. This works in WhatsApp and in all other apps with text input.
  2. Tap the text field and hold your finger on the screen.
  3. The option for Insert.
