How much memory can the recycle bin hold

Manage iCloud storage

Do you need more iCloud storage? You can simply free up space or purchase additional storage.

When you set up iCloud, you automatically get 5 GB of free storage space. You can use this storage for your iCloud backups, to store photos and videos in iCloud Photos, and to keep your documents up to date in iCloud Drive. You always have the option to create more space or to buy more space.

Show iCloud storage used

On the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Go to Settings> [your name]> iCloud. For detailed information on how apps and services use your storage, tap iCloud Storage or Manage Storage.

On the Mac

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences> Apple ID> iCloud. You can find detailed information on how apps and services use your storage by clicking on "Manage".

Free up space in iCloud

When your iCloud storage is full, your device stops backing up data to iCloud, and new photos and videos are no longer uploaded to iCloud Photos. Also, iCloud Drive, other iCloud apps, and text messages on your devices won't stay up to date. You can't send or receive email from your iCloud email address.

You can free up space in iCloud by deleting unused content:

We recommend that you archive or copy the data stored in iCloud before deleting it.

Manage iCloud backup

Choose which apps to back up on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings> [your name]> iCloud.
  2. Tap Manage Storage> Backups.
  3. Tap the name of the device you're using.
  4. Under "Select data for backup" exclude all apps that should not be backed up.
  5. Select "Deactivate & Delete".

When you confirm that you want to disable and delete an app, it will no longer be included in the iCloud backup and all data associated with it will be deleted from iCloud.

Some apps are always backed up as part of the backup and cannot be excluded.

Decrease the size of iCloud photos

ICloud Photos uses your iCloud storage to keep all the photos and videos on your devices up to date. You can free up space in iCloud by deleting photos and videos that you no longer need from the Photos app on one of your devices.

Before deleting, make sure you back up the photos and videos that you want to keep. When you use iCloud Photos and delete a photo or video on one device, it is also deleted on all other devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID.

Follow these steps to delete photos and videos from iCloud Photos.

iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

  1. Open the Photos app and tap Photos at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Select, then choose one or more photos or videos to delete.
  3. Tap the trash can and then on "Delete Photo".

Mac

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Select the photos and videos that you want to delete.
  3. Choose Image, then click Delete Photos.

To select multiple photos or videos, tap Select on iOS or iPadOS, or press and hold Command on a Mac or Control on a PC while selecting items. To select all, press and hold Command-A on macOS or Control-A on Windows, or tap Select All on iOS or iPadOS.

You can restore deleted photos and videos from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. If you'd like to delete something from the Recently Deleted album sooner, tap Select, then choose the items you want to delete. Tap Delete> Delete. If you exceed your iCloud storage limit, your device will immediately remove any photos and videos you deleted. These are then no longer available for restoration in the "Recently deleted" album.

Voice memos in iCloud save your voice recordings in iCloud. * You can easily delete them if you need more storage space.

Open Voice Memos and delete the recording you don't want to keep. It will then be stored in "Recently Deleted", where it will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Until then, you can restore the recording or permanently delete it. Select "Restore All" or "Delete All" to have the selection affect all recordings at once.

* If you're using iOS 11 or earlier, or macOS High Sierra or earlier, your voice memos are stored in iCloud Backup, not iCloud.
